WANT TO BOOK A DJ?
When hiring a DJ (Disc Jockey), most people are unaware of the questions to ask them when they are hiring them for an event. Your first concern is making sure all of your expectations are going to be met for your event. Establish every detail necessary to the hired entertainment such as exact location of where to set up, the time they need to be there, and your budget for the event. Does the DJ need to bring lighting equipment? Having all of these types of questions made ahead of time help make for a stress free event for yourself.

Most DJs have that special knack of helping get a crowd involved. When hosting a party what we all strive for is guest participation. No one enjoys having everyone just sitting around and looking bored. We simply enjoy watching everyone getting up and having a great time. We love to hear about the great music we had and the party and how people just couldn't stay in their seats. Or how they stayed on the dance floor for hours on end because the music was so great they loved every song.

When planning your event entertainment it is always a great idea to keep a DJ in mind. Most DJs will provide you with a play list, which consists of all the music that they will be able to play at your special event. Some DJs will have you pick out your own play list while others prefer to have the flexibility of going on their own. They usually try to feel out the personality of the crowd which can vary from song to song. Make sure if they are going on their own that you have some idea what types of music they plan to be playing and that it is appropriate with your party or event. Also ask if they are prepared to take requests. Some DJs do while others don’t unless it’s the person having the party.

When booking a DJ it is extremely important to either go and view them ahead of time or get references that you can talk with about their performance. This way you can get a feel for their venue and know ahead of time if it is something that you are looking for. When booking a DJ through a booking agent the guesswork is taken out of the equation for you. They will be able to provide you with information on some differences and provide you with some guidance as to whether or not someone is appropriate for your function.
Make sure that if a DJ is the way you would like to go that you do get some sort of play list ahead of time so that if you or your guests wish to hear specific songs they are available. Also some may be able to provide your party or function with some type of theme. For instance you may want to have a disco party and therefore you would want to book a DJ that has that type of music. Or if you are interested in having a Ho-Down then you would want to book a DJ that has country music to choose from. Checking out an individuals play list ahead of time is crucial in ascertaining whether or not your party entertainment can be brought to life.

Also, consider DJs that have top of the line equipment, depending on how big your event is you want to make sure the DJ can supply every one in the room the ability to hear the music or even the master of ceremonies. Does the DJ need to speak while he’s performing? A DJ that can MC the event is also a major plus, if the company, club, client, or wedding party doesn’t have one. Make sure that the DJ has a large selection play-list with a wide variety of different styles of music.
