BIOGRAPHY

The Dan Coy Trio is an intuitive and improvising rhythm section in pursuit of a specific aesthetic vision. It is a vision based on the respect of the swing and bebop language, but delivered with the underlying enthusiasm and exuberance of rock musicians.

The trio maintains a firm grasp of the jazz tradition by basing their collective spontaneous creativity on compositions by composers such as: Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane.

Dan Coy, guitarist, assembled the trio on October 1, 1997 and began performing regularly at Smith's Olde Bar, Sambuca Jazz Cafe, Vince et Christo's, and sharing the bill with Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, Pruett & Davis as well as appearances at Woodruff Park, Variety Playhouse, The Tabernacle, Druid Hills Club, The Palm, Vinings Inn, The Mill, Cable TV shows, and many more. Dan has more than twenty years experience as a bandleader in the Atlanta area. The Dan Coy band dominated the stage at the Café 290 for nearly 14 years. Dan has also performed and recorded with other Atlanta artists such as Kodac Harrison, David Ragsdale, Nancee Kahler, Octavia Jones, Stephanie Petis, Francine Reed, Theresa Hightower, Peter Vogl, and many more. Paul Fallat, drummer, is a veteran of The Dan Coy Band of the 80's. Paul has also played with nearly all the top musicians in the area, along with performing nationally. Additionally, he has done extensive freelance work throughout the Atlanta area recording and sequencing drum tracks for various projects. Paul's musical strengths are essential to the sound of the trio, as he provides a solid foundation while instigating and participating in all manner of musical interplay.

David Webb , bassist, first joined Dan Coy on stage more than 15 years ago, as a skinny little 17 year old sitting-in at the Café 290 Sunday Jam session. David has since gone on to create quite a name for himself in the Atlanta music community. He effortlessly fits into any musical situation with his enthusiastic and confident style. Some of the artists David has performed and recorded with are: Lou's Blues Revue, Tom Gross, Kodac Harrison, Randall Bramlett, Pat Buchanan, Kristen Hall, Richard Bicknell, Peter Vogl, and Queenie Mullinix, just to name a few!

References:
"The Dan Coy Trio cranks out jazz standards, reveling in the naturally flattering acoustics…Coy's jazz box is at no loss for expression as he unleashes streams of notes and chords with an ease belying solid chops. His influences are there - Wes Montgomery, maybe Grant Green - but with so many diverse gigs under his belt, Coy's individual style has absorbed elements from innumerable idioms." - Creative Loafing, February 28, 1998
